Independent / Self-Employed is the closest thing to a company name for the work nobody assigned me: Al-Hadra, a freelance client build, and the smaller tools I kept needing.

Understory (now Holdbar.com A/S) is a software-as-a-service company delivering licensed software for the tours and activities industry, and it's where TrueStory's own founders went next.

What I build, and why

I build systems that turn messy, high-volume problems into reliable pipelines: a million-device IoT platform, a Kubernetes migration, and now AI agents that run against production code.

I'm Abdullah Hamza. You can call me Abu.

I'm an AI Agent Engineer at Openprovider, based in Colombo, working fully remote since July 2026. Before that: eight years across four employers, never in the same domain twice. At Zone24x7, I built IoT and remote-monitoring backends that scaled to around a million retail devices. At TrueStory, I got promoted from Senior Backend Engineer to Tech Lead in six months and led the company's move to Kubernetes. At Understory, I architected event-driven booking infrastructure on AWS and built an LLM-powered lead-sourcing engine that processed 1.3 million websites.

I also build things of my own, end to end: Al-Hadra, an Islamic home hub product, and MakkahMadinahGuide.com, a freelance client build for a US client.

I'm T-shaped on purpose: deep enough in backend and infrastructure to own hard problems alone, broad enough across product, data, and delivery that handoffs don't stall. I use AI agents daily and build them for a living, but I don't treat them as autopilot. Judgment on system boundaries, failure handling, and what ships stays mine, including the agent answering questions about me on this site.
