Order/warehouse system modelling

Systems-analysis coursework modeling an order/warehouse/supplier/customer workflow two ways: the "current" system as it existed, and a "proposed" system improving on it, using context diagrams and process models to make both explicit rather than just describing the change in prose. One specific improvement drove most of the proposed model: mobile delivery-signature capture, moving proof-of-delivery off paper and onto a device at the point of handoff.

Modeling both states side by side, not just the end goal, forced a clear account of exactly what was changing and why, which parts of the existing workflow the new system had to preserve and which it was deliberately replacing. It's requirements and systems-analysis work more than implementation, the discipline of understanding a business process fully before proposing to change it.
